Resolved

I just read Oh Happy Day's new years resolutions as they popped up on my GoogleReader. They are really a great group of resolutions, and they brought a surge of recognition b/c they resemble the goal lists, nay, the goal SPREADSHEETS I have made for myself in the past. I think there are some times when it is good to have these.

But for me things have changed a little lately. I still wake up each morning feeling somewhat bothered by ambition, but I've learned, I guess, that some things are not up to me. So last year I made only one resoution.

2008 resolution: Freak out less.

It was my reminder to enjoy what happened to me, even if I'd specifically planned for something else to happen to me, and sort of throw out a net for serendipitous things that might come along.

This year's resolution came to me during an excellent Sunday School lesson by Brother Davis. (from Mormon 1:2 in the Book of Mormon. See what good things happen when you're good and go to Sunday School!)

2009 resolution: Be sober.

(Ya. It's not related to alcohol. I have many weaknesses, but thankfully not that one.)
I don't plan to get more serious, but to think about what is most important in life and attend to it. Maybe it's my way of acting a little more like a grown up. So I will do a couple dull things like collect food storage for my family, but also wonderful things. I'm not brave enough to list them here. But I expect it will feel a great, to look at life squarely and meet it with an honest effort. I expect integrity to permeate my life! Like Anne with an e, I expect to look duty in the eye and find it a friend!
