Weekend of Desserts

I have this huge file folder of dessert recipes that I tear out from magazines but never have any reason to make. But, this week, with family in town and Brent's birthday to celebrate, we had lots of excuses to have DESSERT!

The first night I was in charge I tried these coconut bonbons from Martha. Aren't they beautiful-looking? Hmmm. Of course, mine didn't turn out nearly so beautiful, which is why you're seeing only Martha's bonbons pictured here. Instead of having a thin, snappy chocolate shell, mine had a thick chocolate force field that was impenetrable to anything but the fiercest jabbing with a knife or a direct bite with your incisors.

I recently discovered I can make my own Dulce de Leche by boiling a can or two of sweetened condensed milk in water for 3 hours (or in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes once the top is rocking). It was a dangerous discovery, as this stuff tastes so good. So the second night Kate and I decided to invent our own recipe featuring Dulce de Leche, and we named it Dos Leches Creame pie.
And of course, we had to celebrate on Brent's actual bday with cinnamon rolls. I think it's time for the two of us to have birthday workout, honey.

Amber's desserts are excellent...and a hard covering of chocolate means just MORE chocolate in my book. Thanks for all the goodies Amber

No worries. That is what incisors are for! What delicious and beautiful treats! I'm always wary of trying recipes out of magazines. You have motivated me to step out of my dessert comfort zone.
