Not Quite a Doctrinal Post

There have been a few evenings when we have been driving home in the dark and have seen spotlights, coming from somewhere down Sierra College Blvd, that beam all the way up to the clouds where they speed in circles--you know the kind. We always wanted to follow the spotlights to find the origin, a car dealership maybe? a sporting event? But it was always late and we needed to get the kids to bed. Brent speculated that it was a church he'd passed on Sierra College. But I wasn't sure if I should believe him. Until we got this flier in our Loomis welcome packet this week.

As far as my criteria for a good church, it seems I've been going about it all wrong. I've always thought I should be looking for the truth. But apparently I should not be looking for the church that is the most true, but rather the church that is the least boring. Woa, was I off. The music is tempting, and Brent did see a sign on the church that offers Saturday services incase you're busy on Sunday. And the people in the picture seem nice enough. I just wonder if they know what kind of a flier they're picture is posted on.

ADDENDUM: I now have a good friend who attends this church. Truly an amazing woman. So while I never doubted this church was full of good people, I'm feeling a little guilty about being flippant.

I don't know Amber - I may start looking for a church that has a glass partition between the congregation and those with kids? Or one that just entertains my kids the whole time instead of me needing to teach them to sit and be reverent and feel the spirit. I understand that there is a time and a season and right now is not my time or season for "quiet and reflective" meetings however I hold on to the fact that the struggle now will be worth it in the end. And another thing....why do we always need to be entertained and kept from being bored? Isn't it ok to sit back and reflect and have that time to recognize truth. I find it a little hard to hear with a rock band delivering my spiritual thought for the week.
